The botanical name of this plant, rosmarinus or "rose of the sea," comes from its affection for growing by the seashore, so consider this scent for any magick involving the sea, whether that be a real physical sea or the internal Moon-ruled sea of the unconscious. This herb was frequently used as an incense at funeral rites by the so-called "common" people in ancient times who could not afford expensive resins. Likewise, it was the garland of choice for the Romans' household gods, and they purified their flocks by smudging them with this protective scent. Thus, this fragrance is useful not only in funerary work but generally in protection. In England, this scent was considered to protect against pesky witches as well as to attract friendship. A Moon scent, the perfume of rosemary is magickally associated with the fixed star of Alphecca, and it is particularly helpful in divination through dreams. Zalewski considers this scent to be helpful in psychic work, to offer protection from nightmares and demons, and to potentiate magickal work. In Sicily, this plant is associated with the Italian equivalent of fairies, who hide under it in the form of snakes, and in Portugal, a dialect name for this magick herb translates as "Elfin plant." Steam-distilled from organic Rosmarinus officinale in Spain. Top Combining With Other Essential Oils The camphorous, herby scent of rosemary combines well with the natural fragrances of basil, bergamot, black pepper, cedarwood, clary sage, cypress, eucalyptus, frankincense, geranium, grapefruit, juniper, lavender, lemon, mandarin, marjoram, niaouli, oregano, palmarosa, peppermint, pine, and thyme. This particular rosemary essential oil is especially camphoraceous (Moony). Top
