Indigo makes a fabulous dye that is known for its smell, which shows how strongly it is ruled by Saturn. Its dark blue color fits the darker vibrations of this planetary influence very well. The process through which indigo yields its dye is so complicated that it is said that only children would have had the inventiveness and the patience to discover its properties. This indigo is a combination of four sources of natural indigo--Indigofera tinctoria (indigo), Isatis tinctoria (woad), and two Chinese herbs that contain indigotins, the blue substance in indigo and woad. It is a pharmaceutical grade, all-natural product and does not contain any synthetic dyes or chemicals. This powder is said to burn with a violet blue smoke, but I have not noticed it. As a Colorant Extracting this magick herb into pure alcohol produces an interesting purplish ink good for magickal workings. It also makes a nice color for wax or soap. |
