Burgundy Pitch
Abies excelsa
Resin exuded by
the Norway spruce is separated into turpentine and burgundy pitch. The spruce is associated with Jupiter, because
it is large and dominating, but some have also seen a connection
to Saturn. Perhaps its strongest connection, though, is to the
Element of Earth. As an evergreen, it represents the triumph of
green life even in the apparent death of winter. This hard amber resin
becomes black pitch when mixed with lampblack.
