Camphor powder Cinnamomom
camphora Distilled from the wood of a large
tree associated with Kuan Yin, goddess of mercy, who hears the cries of all
beings, this resin is traditionally associated with the Moon on account of
its whiteness and its cold scent. Indeed, it looks exactly like "wet" snow. Its scent helps boost clairvoyance and aids in
divination by dreams, and it is added to water used in scrying.
This resin has a cooler and more complex smell than
most, penetrating but good. Do not burn. Instead, simply set out a very small
piece of it, and
the scent will readily fill the air (this resin sublimes--goes from solid to gas--at
room temperature). This method seems appropriate
with such a Moon substance. Make sure you use it only in a well ventilated
area, preferably outside. Do not eat--camphor will ulcerate mucous membranes. Also,
wear gloves whenever handling this resin, and be very careful to clean up
any "crumbs." It is very easily absorbed through the
skin and can cause muscle spasms, even convulsions. Especially keep away
from children and animals.

due to toxicity - I have just found a source for the ground wood
instead, which is much safer. Until it comes in, try using
Camphor essential oil
or round cardamom instead
