High Altar Oil I wanted this oil to evoke the power of the medieval cathedral and its
capacity to protect and offer sanctuary from harm, because traditionally, oils
called "High Altar" are used for breaking hexes, protection,
and consecration. Various formulae
exist for this magic oil, but I created my own (as usual!). I wanted to call to mind the
fragrance of a cathedral so magical workers could draw on the strength of that
image. I combined Indian frankincense, myrrh with a
touch of rose, and balsam to represent traditional Western incense. I
mellowed them with a smoky labdanum and grounded them with vetiver to represent
the solidity of medieval architecture that is so protecting. I
added the fragrance of beeswax and utilized the apothecary's art to create a
smidgen of sweet smoke to evoke altar candles. Traditionally,
this oil is used for breaking hexes, protection (especially from magical attacks), and consecration, but also
traditionally, it is full of fragrance oils and dpg. Mine is 100%
natural. It
is also excellent for consecrating magical tools and clearing ritual spaces, especially if you are
working within the Western esoteric tradition. Top
