Nuit Oil One
of the very first images that attracted me to ancient Egypt
was of Nuit, her naked blue body spangled with stars, bending
over the earth. This image has always remained for me both powerful
and comforting. One of the oldest of the Egyptian gods, Nuit
protects the righteous dead, setting their souls to blaze in
the night sky. She is the daughter of air and moisture; her
watery character (they don't call it the Milky Way for nothing)
is further borne out in some depictions, where she wears a headdress
shaped like a waterpot. Its shape recalls that of the uterus,
and the waters of birth unite in her with those of eternity.
I have chosen to honor this beloved goddess with an oil foregrounding
water scents. It is rich with the fragrance of my own vegetal ambergris,
tidal oakmoss, algae, seaweed. These are lifted by woods associated
with immortality--white cedar and cypress--and give a depth
of mystery with opoponax. In response to customer requests,
I have also developed a Nuit oil especially for use in Thelema.
This scent has notes of voluptuous flowers like night-blooming
jasmine, fragrant woods like cypress and white cedar, and
rich resins such as labdanum and frankincense: "Burn to me
perfumes!" Enjoy!
