Rue Essential Oil
Historically protective, rue was a component of the protective/banishing Four Thieves' Vinegar and an ingredient in asperging for exorcism. The essential oil is a good way to incorporate rue into a protective or blessing incense. After making the incense, sprinkle a few drops on, toss like a salad, and jar up at least overnight so the scent can permeate the ingredients. It will be relased further when the incense warms up. Put a few drops in some alcohol and shake occasionally, then combine the alcohol with water 1:4 to get an asperging liquid. I find no warnings not to use this on skin, but it's better not to, given the fresh plant's ability to cause burns on sensitive skin.  Steam-distilled from wild-harvested Ruta graveolens in Spain.
