Rue Essential Oil
Historically protective, rue was a component of the protective/banishing Four Thieves' Vinegar and an ingredient in asperging for exorcism. The essential oil is a good way to incorporate rue into a protective or blessing incense. After making the incense, sprinkle a few drops on, toss like a salad, and jar up at least overnight so the scent can permeate the ingredients. It will be relased further when the incense warms up. Put a few drops in some alcohol and shake occasionally, then combine the alcohol with water 1:4 to get an asperging liquid. We find no warnings not to use this on skin, but it's better not to, given the fresh plant's ability to cause burns on sensitive skin.  Steam-distilled from wild-harvested Ruta graveolens in Spain.
