White Oak Bark
This herb for protection spells and fertility charms is connected to thunder gods like Jupiter. Its bark contains the planet's metal, tin. Magically, it is good for strong, expansive endeavors and for removing negative magic. In the past, children who were thought to be the target of witchcraft were taken to a white oak tree out in the woods. A hole was drilled in the tree and a lock of the child's hair stuffed into it and plugged. The lock was cut off and the child carried away, breaking the hex. Despite the oak's grandeur and might, it is happy to share its energy with the mistletoe, which lives in its hair. We can all learn from the oak's tolerance and graciousness. This magic herb is an ingredient in a Druidic tea for lust and strength. Medicinally, white oak is highly astringent (tightening, drying), and because of this property, it makes wonderful barrels for aging wine.
