Magic Oil - Herbal Flying 2 drams, 2 bottlesHerbal Flying Oil
The process of creating this Herbal Flying Oil recipe took well over a year to perfect and in the ensuing 15 years, we have continued to experiment with and update it. Crafting a recipe that is relatively non-toxic but that can still effectively aid in astral and dreamwork is quite a tightrope to walk. However, this is alchemy at work: the process of transforming disparate ingredients (in this case plant materials) into a mysterious new whole. Harold began this process by first doing quite a bit of research, looking into both historical and contemporary flying ointments. Then he spent time working and experimenting with herbs traditionally used for astral travel and dreamwork. Influenced by a recipe from traditional witchcraft that consisted of mugwort, rose, and jasmine, Harold decided to give some flower absolutes a try too. Most of us can attest that flower scents can have a powerful effect, something that Harold regularly experienced through his gardening.

Alchemy Works' Herbal Flying Oil includes mugwort, cinquefoil, hops, clary sage, chamomile, poppy, yarrow, tansy, calamus root, rose, henbane, and a few others. The goal is to welcome every aspect of these herbs, so, where possible, we macerate the whole herb in fractionated coconut oil, allowing it to capture the full profile. To strengthen the maceration of the herbs, we also add essential oil versions of some of them, including clary sage, blue chamomile, blue yarrow, blue tansy, calamus, etc. Rather than adding beeswax to make this into an ointment, we have kept it as a (vegan-friendly) oil—especially because it has a very beautiful color on its own and is easy to work with in oil form.

In Harold’s own words, "Imagine how pleased I was to find that this oil is indeed a powerful aid to astral and dream work, including lucid dreaming." One witch has referred to it as a "broom booster," as it can make travel faster. Another practitioner reported that the effect was greatly potentiated when, instead of applying it to the skin, some drops are added to an oil diffuser. Two people have reported that after not using the oil for a week or so, they would suddenly smell it, even though it was not in the vicinity. The scent is pleasantly herby, dominated by the mugwort. The oil, as always, contains no synthetic anything. Top
