Forest pine Forest Pine Essential Oil

This tree was important to Bacchus - his worshippers sometimes wore garlands of of its branches, and up until the modern day, some Greek wines were flavored with its needles. But Neptune also claimed this as his sacred tree, since boats were often made of the wood, its resin being protective. This scent is sacred to Cybele (Rhea), who turned her beloved Atys into a pine tree when he was about to commit suicide for betraying her. This dovetails interestingly with a story about a nymph beloved of Pan who was turned into this tree in order to escape being raped by another. Pan was often depicted as crowned with pine. I believe the association of this scent with Pan is the strongest, but because it is so reminiscent of forests, it can be very helpful when invoking forest spirits. Traditionally, this tree is considered ruled by Saturn because of its sometimes gloomy aspect and the fact that as an evergreen, it stands for immortality and so has decorated burial places in many cultures. Other Associations

A just plain folks kind of scent, pine is good for restoring us when we feel fragmented and for reconnecting with the so-called "common" people, who endure. This is also a great scent for those who do dragon magick, as the fast-burning pine is associated with dragons in China, where these magickal creatures are especially esteemed. In England this tree was planted as a landmark of hospitality, so consider it for a home protection magickal oil that incorporates the feeling of warm welcome. Politically, this tree was also an indicator of secret Jacobite sympathies, so also try this scent for perfume oils that communicate hidden knowledge - the meaning of occult. Steam-distilled from Pinus sylvestris in Hungary Top

Combining With Other Essential Oils

Despite humans' almost universal love of the scent of pine, many people are allergic to pine products, so go easy with this until you know your limits with it. Pine can irritate sensitive skin. The fragrance of pine combines well with the natural scents of bergamot, cedarwood, clary sage, cypress, eucalyptus, frankincense, grapefruit, juniper, lavender, lemon, marjoram, peppermint, rosemary, sandalwood, and thyme.
